Several blocks of Roanoke Avenue may be closed down for the monthly Friday night celebrations. The Uptown Friday Nights galas have been highly successful bringing hundreds of people to the festivities.

ROANOKE RAPIDS - City leaders are going to Chicago to meet with Lafayette Gatling - the developer who happens to own a drive-through funeral home. “We want to see his development capabilities,” City Manager Phyllis Lee said Monday.

As a resident and admirer of the Roanoke Valley, I, for one, am feeling quite positive about the future of the region.  Yes, I am proud to say we have a remarkable theater in Roanoke Rapids, and it is an asset to the area, both in itself and as a tool to encourage other businesses to locate here.

It will be festival time again on Roanoke Avenue Friday night, as the second Uptown Friday Night gets under way.  The event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. The 900 and 1000 blocks of the Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic, allowing people to freely walk the street, shop, taste a variety of seafood and listen to music.

What does the top 1oo mean?  It means a great deal when you're one of the top 100 of thousands in North Carolina.  To be more specific, what if it meant that you were one of the top 100 nurses in North Carolina?
