Rules for Center Stage at Logan’s Roadhouse

6 Qualifying Thursdays (June 11th, June 25th, July 9th, July 23rd, August 6th, August 20th, with semi-finals being Thursday September 24th and finals being on October 1st.

Each qualifying round will be judged by 3 judges. The judges will change each week. One judge will be a representative from Plan B Event Marketing, the second judge will be a business person from the Roanoke Valley and the third will be a representative from Logan’s Roadhouse. The judges for the semi-finals will be vocal experts.

At each qualifying event, 2 singers will be chosen to participate in the semi- finals.

Qualifier Format
Judging will begin 8pm – 9:00pm. New singers can register with Marcia Twisdale by calling 252.532.1703 or by emailing mstwisdale@gmail.com. There will be a maximum of 20 contestants per qualifier. Regular live entertainment will run from 7:00pm – 8:00pm and resume after the contest. Judges will be introduced prior to the contest and their seating will be optimal so that they can see stage, performer, and crowd.

Ground Rules
Songs should be limited to 5 minutes or less. You should use songs from book unless otherwise written yourself. Only use provided equipment. No duplicate songs. Contestant order will be random.

Each participant will be introduced briefly and their song will begin. After singing the judges will score each contestant and at the end of the contest, the scores will be tabulated and results given no later than 30 minutes after contest ends.

The performers will each be judged in 4 categories for a maximum of 50 points:
Singing ability                                                  1-20 points
Appearance                                                     1-10 points
Stage presence                                                 1-10 points
Audience Participation / Reaction                    1-10 points

Contestants that do not move on to the finals may re-register for the next qualifying round, but will enter behind those who have not had a chance to perform yet.

Finals
12 finalists will each perform 1 song of their choosing. No duplicate songs. Singers will be introduced and then perform one song. After the song is performed, the singer will be critiqued by the judges. Audience members will be given a token as they redeem their tickets. Those tokens will be used to vote for their favorite contestant during intermission. After the first round, the field will be narrowed down to a field of five singers who will then sing a second song for the second round. The final winner will be chosen by our panel of judges.

The winner will have a chance to be the opening act for a National know artist at a location TBD.

ValleyFest 2009

Things To Do

Although not in Roanoke Rapids, Historic Halifax is very close by and a great place to visit if you're in town for a short while. Located on the Roanoke River, the town of Halifax developed into a commercial and political center around the time of the American Revolution.

Attractions

The Roanoke Rapids Lake Park, by Dominion Power, is a new 12-acre recreational area and a great addition to the growing opportunities for family oriented recreation and gatherings. Visitors to the park can walk trails, picnic or swim.
